The woman can act, she can sing, she can pick a guitar, write a darn fine song, and she knows how to build a heckuva theme park. Simply put, she’s larger than life.

Dolly will return to the silver screen with Queen Latifah in Joyful Noise, a musically driven feature that tells the story of an unlikely partnership between two strong-minded women who are forced to work together to save a small town Gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut them down.

The project also features original songs by Dolly, who says, “I’m writing a few songs for the movie, and I’m real happy about that.” Other classic Dolly films include “Steel Magnolias,” “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and the Academy Award-nominated “9-5.”

“I’m really happy to be doing a movie with Queen Latifah,” Dolly says. “I really like her and have often thought we would be fun together. Even though we play rivals in the movie, I’m sure we’ll have our fun behind the scenes.”

Additionally, the project is close to Dolly’s heart. “I’m so happy to be doing a movie about music–especially happy because it’s Gospel music which I grew up singing and loving. I think we need something uplifting in this day in time! So yep, happy, happy, happy–that’s me.”

We couldn’t be happier. The world seems brighter with Dolly up on the big screen.
