Ah, Nick Lowe, the Jesus of Cool. Long before Awaiting the Flood was born, editor Jim Simpson caught Nick’s live show with Paul Carrack in NYC. “I remember he rocked the bass and guitar pretty hard,” recalls Simpson, “roared through a ton of his hits including a smashing ‘I Knew the Bride,’ and he smoked like a chimney the whole time. He simply exuded cool and class.” A sublime night, to be sure.

Now’s your chance to see this pub rock icon and groundbreaking producer.

Nick Lowe will return to the U.S. for a full-band tour, his first of this kind in ten years. Ex-collaborator and pub rock icon Graham Parker will open several shows solo.

Lowe produced Parker’s seminal 1976 album Howlin’ Wind. Parker’s band the Rumour included guitarist Brinsley Schwarz and keyboardist Bob Andrews of Lowe’s early seventies band Brinsley Schwarz, which also featured Lowe. Additionally, Brinsley drummer Bob Andrews played on classic Lowe tracks like ‘Heart of the City,” So It Goes” and much of the Jesus of Cool album.

In addition to his work with Parker, Lowe is widely known for his production of Elvis Costello’s early albums, helping to shape the now legendary songwriters sound. Lowe also penned “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding),” while Lowe returned the favor covering Costello’s “Indoor Fireworks” in 1985. As has been previously reported, on October 1st Nick and Elvis will share the stage and a band for a very special night at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall at a show benefiting the Richard de Lone Special Housing Fund. During an early and late set, “Costello Sings Lowe / Nick Sings Elvis” will find the two legends performing hits from each others’ iconic catalogs for one night only.

Considered by Nick to be a “trilogy” of sorts, the three albums immediately preceding his last solo album At My AgeThe Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood and The Convincer – will be pressed on vinyl for the first time ever and will hit stores September 21st.
